About Café de l'Europe

Nestled in the heart of Vienna at Graben 31, Café de l'Europe stands as a timeless beacon of classic Viennese café culture. This restaurant does not chase fleeting trends or social media buzz. Instead, it honors tradition with precision and care, serving dishes that whisper stories of the city’s rich culinary heritage. From the moment you step inside, the ambiance invites you to slow down and savor.

The culinary highlights here are as varied as they are refined. The apple strudel, a true signature, embodies comfort and skill with its delicate layers of pastry, gently spiced tender apples, and a generous pour of warm vanilla cream sauce. It’s a dessert that carries the weight of history while delivering undeniable pleasure. Equally compelling is the chocolate mousse cake - restrained and elegant, its deep cocoa notes and smooth texture provide a sophisticated finish without overwhelming sweetness.

Brunch at Café de l'Europe is a feast, especially the breakfast for two accompanied by prosecco. The carefully curated selection of cheeses, breads, and fresh drinks reflects an attention to quality that permeates every aspect of the menu. For those seeking lighter fare, the salads stand out with their freshness and balance of flavors, turning simple ingredients into memorable experiences.

One cannot overlook the fresh juices here, authentically fresh and devoid of any gimmicks, a rarity appreciated by many. The Fit Coupe - yogurt ice cream crowned with a vibrant mix of fresh fruits, raisins, nuts, and granola - offers a refreshing, healthy indulgence that captivates visitors looking for a lighter dessert alternative.

Service complements the food beautifully. Despite the bustling atmosphere, the staff manages to stay courteous and attentive, adding warmth to the experience. This café exudes a subtle formality, a respectful nod to its history, where conversation flows and time seems to pause. It’s a place for those who appreciate tradition done properly - not flashy, but unwaveringly excellent.

Café de l'Europe perfectly embodies the spirit of old-school Vienna. It’s more than a restaurant; it’s a culinary refuge where skill, history, and genuine hospitality converge. Whether you're indulging in the iconic apple strudel, enjoying a leisurely brunch, or simply savoring a freshly squeezed juice, this café leaves a lasting imprint on the palate and soul.

This was our first time in Vienna. While exploring this impressive city, my daughter wanted ice cream, so we chose Café de l'Europe. I'm so glad we did. I ordered the Fit Coupe, and it was simply amazing. Yogurt ice cream topped with strawberries, kiwi, raspberries, blueberries, and other fruits, along with raisins, nuts, and granola. I highly recommend trying this wonderful treat. We liked it so much that we wanted a second one. I'd also like to thank Mr. Yavuz Selim, who served our table. He was very polite and friendly. Despite the crowded atmosphere, he provided excellent service.

We went there for Lunch. The food was really good. The fresh juice was actually fresh and not a scam as in some other places. The service even better. The atmosphere 10/10. We were lucky and also had a table with a perfect view. Will go back when I go to Vienna again.

We came for brunch and ordered the breakfast for 2 with prosecco and it was worth every penny! The cheeses, breads, and drinks were all so delicious and flavorful. It was so much food we didn’t finish all of it. Highly recommend the visit!

The best place in Viena to have breakfast/lunch/dinner. You can find a big variety of breakfasts. Here I like salads, as I tried only them. They are the best. Whatever salad you order - you will enjoy. Also deserts are good.

Café de l’Europe is the kind of Viennese café that knows exactly who it is and isn’t trying to reinvent itself for Instagram. This place has history in its walls, the sort that whispers rather than shouts. You sit down, and immediately you feel it. writers, thinkers, long conversations over cooling coffee. Proper old school Vienna. Now, let’s talk about the baking because that’s where the truth lives. The apple strudel is the star. Thin, disciplined layers of pastry, not clumsy, not rushed. The apples are soft but still have bite, warmly spiced, and then here’s the clincher it’s drowned (and I mean that lovingly) in hot vanilla cream sauce. Rich, fragrant, unapologetic. This is comfort done with confidence. No gimmicks. Just skill. The chocolate mousse cake is darker, more serious. Deep cocoa flavour, silky texture, not overly sweet. It’s restrained, elegant, and very much in tune with the café’s old world character. This isn’t a show off dessert, it’s a quietly excellent one. Service is brisk, the atmosphere a little formal, and yes, it can feel slightly aloof at times. But that’s part of the deal. You don’t come here for hand holding, you come for tradition done properly. Four stars. Solid, classic, and technically sound. A café that respects its past and delivers where it counts: on the plate.

Great atmoshere, very good service and perfect stuff. Ice cream is very delicious, cakea perfect and coffe very fine. Terasse is great, even in the evening.

Ok wow! This continues to be a favorite while in the 1st district of Vienna. The ice cream (castelletto) is superb. I had the banenancoup and it is monkey worthy. Fresh ingredients push the flavor over the top and the crunchy almonds do not disappoint. My husband enjoyed the Heidelbeerbecher which is a blueberry sundae of sorts. It did not disappoint as well. We visit when we are in Stephansplatz. The night life is cool in temperature and inviting to socialize. The wait staff is top notch and makes it fun.
